An East Stroudsburg man allegedly led state police on a high-speed chase through Monroe County today before crashing the car and attempting to leave the scene with a small child.Pennsylvania State Police said Alexander Nunez, 24, of East Stroudsburg, was spotted by troopers on Route 209 in Middle Smithfield Township speeding recklessly past several other vehicles.
When police attempted to stop Nunez, he allegedly sped off, passing more vehicles, including a school bus, and turned onto Sellersville Road, police said.
Police said Nunez came to a stop when he crashed into a guardrail while attempting to turn onto Tom X Road, but when troopers approached him and ordered him to come out of his car with his hands up, Nunez restarted his car and took off back down Sellersville Road.
Troopers said they caught up to Nunez when he had crashed again into another car traveling along Lower Lakeview Drive. Nunez got out of the vehicle with a small boy and attempted to run away, but was caught and taken into custody, police said.
Both Nunez and the boy in his car, as well as an adult female and a juvenile from the other car involved in the crash, were taken to Pocono Medical Center for treatment, police said.
According to police, Nunez said he tried to run because of a suspended license. Police said Nunez also smelled of alcohol. Nunez was sent to Monroe County Prison pending a preliminary arraignment.
