The attempted robbery in Deatrick Hall happened about 1:45 and two of the three men displayed black handguns, the university said. One of the residents was struck during the incident, which began with a knock at the door, the university said.
The intruders searched the room but didn't take anything, the university said.
The three men were dressed in black from head to toe, to include jackets, pants, footwear, gloves, skull caps and an article of clothing that covered their faces from their nose down, the university said.
The university's Department of Public Safety and Police Services is conducting the investigation, the university said.
The six-floor dorm can house 334 students; it has women on the top three floors and men on lower three floors. The university did not say on which floor the crime happened.
