The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is warning motorists to expect delays up to 45 minutes if traveling along I-78 eastbound in the late afternoon or evening hours.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is warning drivers to expect delays of up to 45 minutes this week on Interstate 78 East approaching the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border.

Travel delays anticipated in the late afternoon or evening hours are the result of paving work being conducted east of Route 33 to the I-78 toll bridge at the Delaware River.

Single-lane travel patterns will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday on I-78 East from milepost 74.5 in Williams Township to the bridge.

The commission expects traffic to back up for up to 5 miles. It urges I-78 East drivers to consider other travel alternatives, such as Route 22 and the Easton-Phillipsburg toll bridge while single-lane patterns are in effect.

The paving work is along a 2.25-mile stretch of the highway that the commission owns and operates in Northampton County. It is one of the final elements of the $18.5 million I-78 Toll Bridge PA Approach Paving Improvements Project, which the commission has been carrying out along the roadway since last September.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in June.
