Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets have removed several varieties of Lightlife Veggie Burgers from their shelves because they could contain milk and it is not listed on the ingredient label.
Lightlife Foods announced the initial recall. The following products are included:
• Lightlife Farmers Market Veggie Burgers, UPC 4345480525, 12 oz., with best if used by date of July 16, 2013, and July 30, 2013
• Lightlife Kick n Black Bean Burgers, UPC 4345480526, 12 oz., with best if used by date of July 16, 2013, and July 30, 2013
Neither Giant nor Martin's have received reports of illness to date, according to a corporate news release. This product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a milk allergy, however, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product, the news release said.
Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant or Martin's for a full refund.
Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic, the news release said. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
