There's a flood watch -- meaning there's a potential for flooding if the forecast holds true -- in place in Hunterdon County and a flood advisory for the Lehigh Valley and Warren County, the National Weather Service says. As of 8:51 this morning, 1.86 inches of precipitation had been measured at Lehigh Valley International Airport since the storm began Tuesday morning, the weather service reports.
But, while rain is expected to continue for the next several hours, the bigger travel story in the latter part of the day may turn out to be the temperature.
Just after 6 this morning, it was 60 degrees in Clinton, 45 degrees at the airport in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, 37 degrees in Harrisburg and 32 degrees in Pittsburgh. Can you see into the future?
The question for the evening is will the temperature go below freezing in the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey before the wind, which will pick up, blow dries area roads?
The overnight low is predicted at 26 degrees and it's barely expected to break freezing on Thanksgiving Day.
So, as you head out to work, bring something warm to wear on the way home, because it's going to be 37 by 5 p.m., weather.com says, adding that we'll be at freezing between 9 and 10 tonight.
And be careful, especially on non-treated roads, once the sun sets and the evening wears on.
