The driver of the red Saturn, which is owned by an Allentown man, is taken to the trauma center at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill, police say.
All three crashes involving a red car this morning in Northampton County featured the same Saturn coupe, which is owned by an Allentown man, Colonial Regional police Chief Roy Seiple said.
As police responded to the first crash at Schelden Circle and Brodhead Road in Hanover Township, the Saturn was crashing into two vehicles at Route 191 and Newburg Road in Lower Nazareth Township and then continuing to ProLogis Parkway and Route 248 where it rear-ended a Toyota SUV about 9:25, Seiple said.
People in the other vehicles were not hurt in the first two wrecks and a person in the silver Toyota Highlander in the third crash was taken to a St. Luke's Hospital, Seiple said earlier. The driver of the Saturn was taken to the trauma center at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill, Seiple said.
Police were not pursuing the Saturn, because they didn't know about it until the second and third accidents had happened, he said.
The Saturn is owned by Matthew Pope, of the 600 block of North 22nd Street in Allentown, Seiple said. He could not confirm Pope was driving the car today.
When asked if Pope was at St. Luke's, a hospital spokeswoman said they had no information on him. Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim's office this afternoon began an investigation into a death at St. Luke's, but he did not have any further information, according to an email.
Police are trying to piece together how the Saturn got from Hanover to the two Lower Nazareth crash sites, Seiple said. The driver of the Saturn will not immediately be charged, Seiple said. The investigation will continue depending on the man's condition, Seiple said.
More information should be released in the next 12 to 24 hours, Seiple said.
"I don't want to ever see this happen again," Seiple said, declining to provide more information.
