An active shooter was reported earlier this afternoon at a high school in Colorado, The Associated Press reports, and one student was in critical condition at the hospital.
According to the sheriff during a news conference on television, one student was transported with a serious injury, and the suspected shooter died of a self-inflicted wound. The shooter was looking for a specific teacher, who was alerted and quickly left the building, the sheriff said.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson told a TV station that two people were shot.
The incident was reported at Arapahoe High School in the Littleton Public Schools district. The district is near Columbine High School, which was the site of a mass shooting in 1999 in the Jefferson County Public Schools District.
Police were outside the school, and students were seen walking toward the school's running track with their hands in the air. Television footage showed students being patted down, the AP says.
