This round of extreme cold won't be quite as bad as the last polar vortex.

A blast of frigid temperatures is expected to grip the region in the upcoming week as another polar vortex dips south, according to AccuWeather, although it won't be quite as cold as the last round of extreme cold.

After today's and Monday's scattered snow and highs around 40 degrees, temperatures are expected to be in the mid-20s Tuesday, then plummet overnight to about 8 degrees, the National Weather Service says.

Wednesday's forecast is a high of 20 degrees and a low of 11 on Wednesday night. Temperatures are expected to climb slowly from there, ending the week on Saturday with a high of 34 degrees, according to the weather service.

Some nuisance snow is possible as the frigid weather moves through the region, AccuWeather says, but no major snowfall is in the forecast for the upcoming week.
