Authorities say a 5-year-old New Jersey girl suffered burns after her mother took her in a stand-up tanning booth.

Patricia Krentcil is charged with child endangerment.

Nutley Police Detective Anthony Montanari told The Record newspaper police were called to an elementary school on April 24 because the kindergartner was experiencing pain as a result of a “pretty severe sunburn.”

The 44-year-old mother, who is very tan, has told various TV stations her daughter was in the room, but not the booth.

New Jersey law prohibits anyone under the age of 14 from using tanning salons.

Krentcil posted $25,000 bond and was released to authorities in Camden County, where she had an outstanding warrant on a municipal charge.
