The heat picks up today and sticks around until mid-week.
Power crews worked quickly in restoring power to thousands after a string of thunderstorms ripped across the area Sunday evening. The only place that remained in the dark this morning was sections of Hardwick Township with 133 JCP&L customers out and Blairstown with 36.
Other communities in the Lehigh Valley and Warren and Hunterdon counties were below 10 outages each, according to power company websites.
But that doesn't mean the weather won't be threatening. We're back in the broiler through Wednesday with temperatures in the 90s. Experts are advising people to not overexert in the heat and to check on pets and elderly neighbors. Three people have died in recent weeks in the region of heat-related ailments.
"For reasons of personal comfort, we remind the public that is important for those without air conditioning to first consider the possibility of staying with friends or family who have AC in their residences," according to the Hunterdon County Department of Public Safety. "Visiting shopping centers or other public buildings that can provide relief from the heat might be a good solution for someone who may not be interested in visiting one of the identified locations."
